Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

In addition to being a licensed psychologist, I am a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200).  I provide yoga therapy for stress management and the enhancement of well-being.  Yoga therapy sessions are 60 minutes long and utilize yoga mats, bolsters, and cushions.  No prior yoga experience is necessary, but if you have health concerns, you should check with your physician to see if there are any contraindications to performing gentle yoga postures.

Yoga therapy sessions are $100 each. Insurance does not cover the cost of this therapy.  During the first session, I will take a thorough history and ask about your health habits in detail.  I will also provide basic yoga breathing instruction during the first session.  During the second session, I will provide an individualized plan to target the issues you would like to address (e.g., stress management and/or improved well-being).  Additional sessions may be scheduled as often as you like.  Yoga therapy is best used as an adjunct to psychotherapy, not a substitute for it.  While you do not have to be in psychotherapy with me in order to schedule a yoga therapy session, if I determine that your issues are more serious than those that can be addressed via yoga therapy, I will make an appropriate referral plan.

Comfortable clothing (e.g., yoga pants, sweat pants) should be worn as you will be sitting on the floor and moving through gentle, basic yoga postures.  Reading material may be recommended.  Please feel free to call if you have additional questions prior to scheduling a yoga therapy session.

From time to time, I will offer small group workshops utilizing yoga therapy techniques.
